Not many of us find the thing we’re going to devote our lives to at 18.

Yet, for Don Warren, that’s exactly what happened.

One afternoon in 1946 he was minding his own business, sitting in the stands at Soldier Field during a Boy Scout jamboree, when the Racine Scouts marched in. The troop was dressed like any other unit, in khaki and olive drab, but they blew tunes on bugles and beat cadences on drums. Warren was dumbstruck.
