In The News: Cavaliers Bring ‘Samurai’ To Life In DeKalb Rehearsals

More than 100 percussion and brass players, as well as flag handlers – all members of the Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps – were at Huskie Stadium on Friday afternoon practicing a new routine based on Japanese culture. Called “Samurai,” the arrangement required all the musicians to yell “ah-ya” as loud as possible as the drums and horns built to a furious peak.

“Accent the ‘Ya’ at the end of the yell even more,” Bertman, brass captain head for the Cavaliers, said to the group during rehearsal. “The audience is already getting excited with the drums pounding, and this will pump them up even more.”
