In The News: Fans Pile Up In Salem For Summer Music Games Of Southwest Virginia

In just a few weeks, football teams will be playing under the lights. But Tuesday night, some of the nation’s elite drum and bugle corps went toe to toe in Salem Stadium in the Summer Music Games of Southwest Virginia.

Seven drum and bugle corps from five states are testing their talent on a summer circuit that’s billed as Marching Music’s Major League.

"Once June comes around, they go from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.," says judge Diane Wyant. "They dedicate their whole summer sleeping on gym floors, sleeping on buses, eating peanut butter and jelly and tuna fish sandwiches on the buses… That’s dedication."
