Teal Sound Forms Riptide Winter Ensemble

| |

In two short years, the Teal Sound Drum & Bugle Corps, has grown from a small DCI Division III corps to becoming one of the largest and most successful DCI Division II/ Open Class corps’. In the beginning of that transition, The Teal Sound, Inc. set new goals and a new mission statement for the organizations’ development over the next five years. Samplings of the goals that have already been reached include:

  1. tripling the size of membership,
  2. moving into contention for the DCI Open Class Crown
  3. hiring a talented, respected and an educational driven staff
  4. and most importantly …..to became a financially stable organization that is respected in the community, both with drum corps and local communities

The Teal Sound, Inc. Mission Statement reads as follows:

The mission of the Teal Sound, Inc. is to train youth through the highest quality of artistic movement, music education and cooperative team building to enable them to reach their full potential, thereby empowering their future role in society as exemplary citizens, innovators, and leaders.

With that, it is time to add the next chapter to the Teal Sound story.

The Teal Sound, Inc. is proud to announce the formation of its’ first winter ensemble –

RIPTIDE WINTER PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE

The ensemble will participate in the Independent Marching A Percussion Class for local Florida Federation of Colorguards Circuit shows and the WGI Orlando Regional and will be led by Director, Vic Kulinski.

“We are all very excited to have someone of Mr. Kulinski’s talents and expertise join and be a part of the Teal Sound family,” stated Brian Fisher, President of The Teal Sound, Inc. Mr. Kulinski’s background includes the Connecticut Hurricanes, Heatwave of Florida and most recently Corpsvets, not to mention all of the other marching and percussion activities he has been involved with over the pas 30 years. “Under Mr. Kulinski’s leadership, we expect great things to happen with this organization as it builds and evolves just as the drum corps has over the past couple of seasons,” added Fisher.

Riptide is open to anyone 14-21 years of age and will be based in the Ocala, Florida area. They will be looking to pull their membership base from along the I-75 corridor, stretching from Wildwood (Florida Tpke area) to Lake City (I-10 area) across to the Daytona Beach area. However, those outside those areas are also welcome to be a part of the inaugural year of Riptide. All spots are open and all levels of talent are encouraged to attend. Also, membership in the Teal Sound Drum & Bugle corps is not a requirement to participate with Riptide, but we hope that those that become members of Riptide will consider also participating with Teal Sound, should they decide to march corps.

Riptide will also look to continue as a year round ensemble, to help promote the Teal Sound organization at parades, standstills, conventions and other events. It can also be used by those that want to continue to grow as a percussionist and performer over the summer, get their chops ready for marching band, or can’t do the summer corps gig due to financial or family circumstances, but want to stay involved,

The staff that is currently being formulated consists of those that have been successful educators and performers in their respected percussion & marching fields throughout Florida and the East Coast, and will also include some of the 2009 Teal Sound Drum & Bugle Corps staff as consultants to the program. Stay tuned over the next few weeks for staff announcements.

Auditions will take place over 3 rehearsals starting on November 2 and continuing on November 16 and 30 at a location to be announced very soon.
