Cadets Silent Auction Fundraiser Gets Off The Ground

A Silent Auction fundraiser to benefit the 2009 Cadets will be held on Aug. 1, 2009 during the corps’ 75th Anniversary Summer Diamond Bash at Montclair State University Conference Center in Montclair, N.J.

Chairing the Silent Auction Committee is Kathy Santo of Upper Saddle River, N.J. Santo, a member of the corps in 1982, already has a committee of six working alongside her on the project and is seeking alumni and supporters of the corps who might be interested in joining the effort.

The committee will meet again on Nov. 13th at 7 p.m. in North Jersey.

For Santo, chairing the Silent Auction Committee is a way to give back to the corps and ensure the experience remains a possibility for others for many years to come. Long-time family ties to the corps also made the decision to take on the project an easy one.

“My husband Eric’s grandfather, John, was a quartermaster back in the late 1940s to early 1950s; his father, Richard, marched during that same time; from 1979-1982 his father was director of the corps; from 1976-1982 Eric marched. I met Eric during the one year that I marched in 1982,” said Santo.

With a fundraising goal of $10,000 or better, the next step for the committee is to actively look for special, one-of-a-kind Cadets’ memorabilia to include as auction items, said Santo. Items from across the corps’ 75-year history are sought. Holy Name, Garfield, Cadets of Bergen County and the Cadets – all banners encapsulate the rich history of the corps, and the committee hopes to present items from the full seven decades.

“In addition, we’re asking everyone in the Cadet family, including their relatives, friends, and local businesses, to support the fundraiser by donating to the auction, whether it’s items or monetary donations,” Santo said.

The Silent Auction will be held during The Cadets Summer Diamond Bash celebration on Aug. 1 at the Montclair State University Conference Center in Montclair, N.J. The event was recently announced as part of the corps’ 75th Anniversary season of events.

From 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., alumni, friends and supporters of the corps will celebrate the historic journey of the Cadets, ending in a fabulous concert by the 2009 corps at the university’s Memorial Auditorium.

Along with the Silent Auction, guests will enjoy:

* Induction of the 2009 Class of the Cadets Hall of Fame
* Photos, film footage and a glimpse back in time
* Honors to all past drum majors and directors
