Lake Erie Thunder Announces 2009 Corps Leadership Team

| |

It gives me great pleasure to announce Lake Erie Thunder corps leadership for the coming year.

Rob Chase, Corps Director – Rob’s drum corps career includes marching in the famed 86 and 87 Steel City Ambassadors, returning to teach there in 90, 91 and 92, along with spending several years with Erie Excalibur, and a short stint with the Lake Erie Regiment. Rob has been the director of musical programs for the Iroquois School District outside the City of Erie for over 20 years, and has turned out many championship and top rated bands in the LMBA circuit year after year.

Ken Berlin, Brass Caption Head – Ken’s drum corps career somewhat mirrors Rob’s in that he has spent several years at Steel City and Excalibur, while holding the job of director of musical programs at the Harbor Creek School District just outside the City of Erie, who again turned out many championship bands in the LMBA circuit. From time to time Ken sits in as assistant brass instructor for the Erie Thunderbirds. Ken is now the Principle at Iroquois High School.

Ed Coleman V, (EV) Percussion Caption Head – Ed has marched several seasons with the Lake Erie Regiment, Kiwanis Kavaliers, Empire Statesmen and was a member of the Reading Buccaneers two years ago and won a DCA title and percussion title, not to mention he held the center snare spot that season. Ed recently was the percussion caption head for the White Sabers in 2008, and continues to run the now three year old Presque Isle Percussion indoor percussion ensemble who have seen a tremendous amount of success in their short lifetime.

Ed Coleman IV (EIV) Board President – Ed began his drum corps career back in the 1960’s as a drummer in the North East Shoreliners, spent a couple years with the Meadville Thunderbirds, and assisted in the corps move to the City of Erie in the late 60’s. Ed along with Chuck Lute ran the Thunderbirds from the early 70’s until the early 80’s when the corps was forced to disband. Ed has been on the board of the Lake Erie Fanfare for over 25 years, serving as president for the last several years. Ed is currently the treasurer for the Erie Thunderbirds and continues to play in the snare line.
