Memphis Sound Announces 2009 Administrative Additions

Memphis Sound is pleased to announce the addition of two new key staff members to the administrative team. Chris Green has been hired as the new corps director for Memphis Sound. Dr. Gary Westbrook has been hired as Assistant Corps Director / Tour Manager. Pam Opie will remain as the Executive Director of Memphis Sound.

Chris Green comes to Memphis Sound with a long history of work with DCI, DCA as well as international groups. Mr. Green has served as Brass Caption Head, Arranger, Program Coordinator, and in consultant roles with more than a dozen corps. He marched Carolina Crown for 4 seasons, and was a performing member with Carolina Gold, Gulf Coast Sound, Frontier, as well as several Mini-corps. Mr. Green is a Middle School Choir Director in Dallas ISD as well as the Executive Director and Founder of the Frontier Performing Arts Association. Mr. Green is no stranger to the arts administration world, having been on several Boards of Directors as well as a founding partner in several organizations from Brass Ensembles to Choir to Theater Groups. He is the co-founder of Carolina Gold and Frontier, along with being a founding partner of several other corps and upcoming projects.

Gary Westbrook, PhD
Gary is an Assistant Professor of Music at Louisiana Tech University. He serves as the Assistant Director of Bands, Head of Music Education and Director of Percussion Studies there. He is a former member of the Bridgemen Drum and Bugle Corps. Gary has served as Assistant Tour Director for the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps and the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps, as well as Founder and Director of Masquerade Drum and Bugle Corps, Director of Carolina Gold Drum and Bugle Corps, and Front Ensemble Arranger for Carolina Gold, Gulf Coast Sound, and Frontier Drum and Bugle Corps. Gary is a member of CBDNA, MENC, LMEA, PAS, Phi Mu Alpha and has been named a National Arts Associate by Sigma Alpha Iota.

The Memphis Youth Performing Arts Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, youth-serving organization. MYPAA is the parent organization of the Memphis Sound Drum & Bugle Corps. The mission of the Memphis Youth Performing Arts Association is to provide opportunities for youth to build successful, healthy lifestyles through music and performance, and to promote artistic excellence.
