SoCal Dream Drum and Bugle Corps is excited to announce major additions to the staff for 2009.

Kevin M. Bell joins SoCal Dream for the 2009 season and will assume a dual role of Drill Designer and Visual Tech. Kevin’s involvement in pageantry arts spans over 20 years as a performer, instructor, designer, and adjudicator. He has designed shows for over 150 bands, winter guards, drum and bugle corps, and indoor drum lines across the country. Kevin also branched out into the world of adjudication, and has adjudicated contests for Drum Corps Associates (DCA), Drum Corps International (DCI), Winter Guard International (WGI), Winter Guard Association of Southern California (WGASC), Western Band Association (WBA), and many others across the United States. He currently serves as a Visual Judge for WGI, WBA & WGASC.

Johnny Ortiz has been appointed as SoCal Dream’s Percussion Caption Head. As a performer, he was member of one of the early innovative high school ensembles with Coachella Valley High School(CVHS). While a member of CVHS they won two winter drumline titles and he won the I & E title on tenors. Johnny’s drum corps experience was first with the Kingsmen of Anaheim in 1986 then Velvet Knights in 1988. He also toured with RCC to Hawaii in 1988. Johnny started teaching while still in high school at Bobby Duke Jr. High. They were the first Jr High winter drumline champs in SoCal in the original SCDLC circuit. His other teaching credits include:

Coachella Valley – 1987-1992
Palm Springs High – 1988-1990
Yucca Valley High – 1993-1995
Indio High – 1991-1995 (1993 Div 2 Champs)
Palm Desert High – 1998-1999
La Quinta High – 1996-2007 (2001 Div 1 Champs, 2007 Sch. World Runner Up)

In addition to teaching, Johnny has also been an adjudicator with ADLA for 13 years and with USSBA for the 2008 fall season.

Kevin and Johnny will join returning staff members, Mark “Mac” McEntire (visual cap head), Robert “Chet” Chester (visual tech), Mark Brown (guard cap head) and John Wales (brass arranger).

We’re looking forward to an exciting and musically compelling program, and with the visual staff that is now in place, expect nothing but the best from SoCal Dream for the 2009 season. SoCal Dream will once again make the trip to Rochester NY for the DCA Championships. We will see you on the field!
