After setting down their instruments and disbanding 35 years ago, the Purple Lancers Drum and Bugle Corps are struggling to find musicians to refill their ranks as they attempt to reclaim their title as the ambassadors of Auburn.

As he stood watching 13 young percussionists during their Sunday practice at Trinity United Methodist Church, Dick Gagliardi, the Purple Lancers’ president, said the group has been looking for more brass players who were at least 13 years old.
