2009 Madison Scouts February Camp Report

The Madison Scouts February music camp saw the corps take a significant step forward while staff and volunteers tackled multiple projects behind the scenes. Program Coordinator Ramiro Barrera sat down with the guys Saturday night to explain the thoughts behind the 2009 program Relámpago. At the end of the weekend, the corps had a unique opportunity to record the opener for DCI’s The Countdown that will air May 13 in theaters across the country.

The Scouts battery spent Saturday afternoon with the Black Star Drum Line, a group of children from the local Boys and Girls Club. Led by Scouts alumnus Joey Banks, these young drummers participated in a short rehearsal and saw where their talents could lead them with a continued commitment. “This was not just a learning opportunity for young musicians,” said Development Director Jeff Spanos. “The Scouts drum line realized how much they will influence young talent across the country this summer.”
