With a new sense of purpose and dedication, Carolina Crown came to Bristol last Friday night at Mt. Hope High School’s Dietz Field to prove once and for all they could finally beat the vaunted Holy Name Cadets (formerly known as The Cadets, The Cadets of Bergen County, Garfield Cadets, etc.). The 21st installment of the “Summer Music Preview” drum and bugle corps competition was sponsored by the Bristol Fourth of July Committee and DCI (Drum Corps International).

The Crown, from Fort Mill, S.C., gave it everything they had in winning the World Class Division competition with a first-place score of 85.1. They easily outdistanced the runner-up Holy Name Cadets, who posted a score of 82.8. The Cadets are using their original name this year in honor of their 75th anniversary in drum corps.
