In The News: Sutherlin Woman Inducted Into Buglers Hall Of Fame

A Sutherlin woman is joining the ranks of such legendary horn blowers as Louis Armstrong and Maynard Ferguson after her recent induction into the Buglers Hall of Fame.

“I don’t think I rate as high as they do,” said Donna-Mae Smith, now 89. The corners of her lipsticked mouth curled up and her eyes shone as she spoke.

“That’s a different type of music,” she said, dressed in a light-blue top, denim skirt and tan flats. China and vases she has hand painted line cabinets and tabletops in the living room of her immaculate home.
