The Hawthorne Caballeros will host their 44th annual Drum Corps Grand Prix on Saturday, July 11th, 2009 at 6:15 p.m. at our new location, Passaic County Technical Institute, 45 Reinhardt Road, In Wayne, NJ.

The Grand Prix is a major Drum Corps competition in the New Jersey area with participating groups from all over the East Coast. The competitors in the event will be judged as part of the 2009 DCA (Drum Corps Associates) season with several awards, including the Drum Corps Grand Prix Champion, up for the taking. American Legion Post #199 from Hawthorne, NJ is the proud sponsor of the Drum Corps Grand Prix.

The Hawthorne Caballeros have a fascinating history based on a North American tradition and a future that is committed to the performing arts, youth education and entertainment.

Since 1946, Hawthorne, New Jersey has been the home of World Champion Hawthorne Caballeros Drum and Bugle Corps. Founded by Hawthorne resident Jim Costello, the Caballeros were originally comprised of veterans returning from the Second World War. Costello introduced the Latin style of music and dress that began the Spanish tradition that continues in today’s Caballeros. In fact, the Caballeros still dress in the same uniform introduced by Jim Costello in the early years of the drum and bugle corps.

Today, drum and bugle corps’ are a worldwide community with the Hawthorne Caballeros recognized as the most famous drum and bugle corps in the world. Modern drum and bugle corps are entertainers and fierce – but friendly – competitors.

Competing Corps include the Sunrisers from Long Island, NY, the Hurricanes from Derby, CT, the Bushwackers from Harrison, NJ, the Reading Buccaneers from Reading, PA and your hosts, the Hawthorne Caballeros.

Also performing in exhibition are the Jersey Surf from Mount Holly, NJ, the Skyliners Alumni Corps from New York, NY, the NY Skyliners Alumni Chorus from New York, NY Park City Pride from Bridgeport, CT and The Hawthorne Caballeros Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps from Hawthorne, NJ will finish out the evening with their 2009 program which is guaranteed to entertain – and bring the audience to their feet.

This is a great evening of entertainment, competitive spirit and fun for the whole family. Tickets are still available. Prices are $18 for reserved, $15 for adult general admission and $5 for general admission for children under 12. For more information, tickets or group packages, contact Doug Tenis at 973-423-9702.
