In The News: Victor’s Bbugle Boy

As a child, Tom Mika would often march around his home with his trumpet, playing the classic gospel hymn “When the Saints Go Marching In,” his feet stomping to the beat.

“He fell in love with it,” recalls his mother, Laurie Mika, referring to the trumpet. “It was always in his blood.”

Years later, after countless practices and performances, Tom has gone from playing at home and high school to huge sports stadiums, performing with the Ohio-based Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps for the first time this summer. The marching band maintains an intensive practice schedule and travels around the country competing with other drum corps from the U.S. and other countries, including Japan and Canada.
