In The News: Rochester Drum Corps Snares Third Place In World Championships

Running through a few final rehearsals Sunday evening, Jim Steele said the final few hours of the drum corps season were bittersweet.

The Empire Statesmen, the Rochester-based drum corps in which Steele plays mellophone, took third place in the Drum Corps Associates World Championship on Sunday at Marina Auto Stadium.

"These groups will never be together again," he said, looking at hundreds of kindred spirits from around the country as they twisted flags, pounded drums or blew into horns. With departures and new members, next year’s teams could be very different when the championships return to Rochester.
