In The News: Joey Pero’s High Notes

Word is getting around about Batavia native Joey Pero. "Resonance," the young trumpeter’s independent album released in late spring, has been, well, resonating with critics.

The album has been hailed as the future of jazz trumpeting, and acclaimed for its daring blend of styles that mix classical and jazz, with a little rock, pop and even hip-hop.

The results have Pero being compared to Wynton Marsalis, Allen Vizzutti and the late Maynard Ferguson, who Pero counts as an idol and a mentor — and with whom he toured as a member of Ferguson’s Big Bop Nouvea Band in 2005.
