In The News: Purple Lancers Pulling Program Back Together

Richard Gagliardi knew nothing about music, but when a friend asked him to join the local drum and bugle corps, 15-year-old Gagliardi went anyway. They fitted him with a uniform, handed him a pair of cymbals and told him to follow the other boys’ march.

More than 50 years after he joined the group in 1956, Gagliardi resurrected the musical ensemble that to him and the rest of its members meant much more than musical notes and beats set to a march. Saturday, the Purple Lancers perform at an Italian buffet they are holding to raise money for the group.
