Taking nearly 150 young people ages 14 to 21, plus assorted staff, on the road for eight weeks is not without its challenges.

One of the biggest is feeding them.

Among the national touring corps, the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps has one of the most veteran — and best — cooks in the country in Traute "Mom" Gilbert, who has toured full-time with the corps since 1994. While Gilbert is clearly one of the corps’ strongest assets, the Troopers’ ancient kitchen on wheels is not.
