“Iowa’s Ambassadors of Music,” the Colts from Dubuque, will join the seven-time Drum Corps International (DCI) world champion Cavaliers from Rosemont, Ill. and five more of the nation’s top drum and bugle corps in competition when the “Summer Showdown” returns to West Des Moines Valley High School Stadium on Sunday, July 18 at 7 p.m.

Other corps in competition include past Central Iowa favorites the Troopers from Casper , Wyo.; perennial DCI finalists The Bluecoats from Canton , Ohio; the Boston Crusaders from Boston , Mass.; and the Blue Knights from Denver , Colo., as well as the Colt Cadets from Dubuque – a unit primarily made up of younger members from Dubuque and the tri-state area.

This is the second annual “Summer Showdown,” which is sponsored by the Colts in cooperation with Valley High School Bands. The event brings a drum and bugle corps competition back to Central Iowa, which annually hosted Ankeny’s “Celebration in Brass” for 25 years through 2007.

“We know the Ankeny show had become an annual tradition for many Central Iowa drum corps fans and we’d love to have fans renew that tradition with this show,” said Colts Executive Director Greg Orwoll. “We certainly have a stellar lineup and one of the finest stadiums in the state. It should be a great evening of family entertainment.”

General admission seats are available from Rieman Music Stores in Urbandale , Des Moines and Ames. Reserved seats are available from Drum Corps International online at, or by phone at 317-275-1212.

Reserved and general admission tickets will be available at Valley High

School Stadium beginning at 3 p.m. on July 18.
