DCE Allows All Electronics And Instruments

Drum Corps Europe and its Certified Partners will give corps free rein for the use of electronics. From next season all electronics and instruments will be allowed at DCE Certified Shows.

Amplification has been permitted since the start of this year. Following the example given by DCI, various corps requested implementing new and exciting techniques. At the European Drum Corps Symposium in London in January it was found that most corps did not object to this. After extensive consultation with partner organisations and with the judging community, corps will be given free rein from 2011.

All limits have been removed. "We will give complete freedom to show designers, arrangers and instructors to create the most spectacular and breathtaking drum corps shows they can think of", says DCE Chairman Marcel Matthijsse. The competition manual will be adjusted accordingly. No adjustments will be required in the judges’ manual. "Essentially, the judging system will remain the same. Shows will continue to be judged ‘the drum corps way’."

It should be taken into account that not all locations allow electricity on the field. Bad weather can also lead to a decision by the organisation not to allow electronics.
