In The News: Drum Beauty Is Fun For All Ages

My first visit to the Stillwater area was in 1959 when an exciting new even called Drum Beauty came to town. This was my introduction to what would be a lifetime of activity and excitement for me.

One of the first drum corps to compete here in Stillwater was the Garfield Cadets. They were affiliated with the Holy Name Parish in Garfield, N.J. They were not the only Catholic drum and bugle corps. At that time there were more than 40 similar corps out east and in the Midwest. The big show for them every year was Catholic Youth Organization competition in Lynn, Mass.
