In The News: Local Drummer Beats Path To National Competition

Shane Holmquist rehearsed all summer for 10 minutes of perfection and formed new friendships along the way.

The 19-year-old Stevens High School graduate returned to Rapid City last week from the Lucas Oil Stadium of the Indianapolis Colts, where he and his 150 colleagues had competed in the 2010 Drum Corps International World Championships.

It was the conclusion of a summer playing the bass drum as a member of the Troopers Drum & Bugle Corps, based in Casper, Wyo., tirelessly marching in patterned blocks and sequences.
