New Corps Organization Will Hold Inaugural Meeting In Philadelphia

Startup drum and bugle corps groups from throughout the United States and Canada, and those considering the possibility of starting a group in their communities, will gather in Philadelphia on Saturday, Nov. 13 to give flight to Drum Corps North America (DCNA), a fledgling organization which according to its charter members will endeavor to “promote the rebirth and growth of ‘hometown’ corps throughout the United States and Canada.”

“Our plan is to assist in establishing small local units throughout North America,” said Roger Exposito, event co-organizer. “These groups can then grow, mature and become financially responsible, and then can continue on to take part in the Drum Corps International Tour, if they so choose. We know that we have to be able to manage our organizations as effective not-for-profit businesses and to grow them carefully and with great attention to detail. We need to ensure that our programs are in fact “Major League” enterprises before we endeavor to head out on the road as touring ensembles. Through the creation of DCNA, we intend to do just that.”
