In The News: Chocolate Shop Owner’s Sweet Gesture Gives Profits To Madison Scouts

Most business owners would be worried if their new venture didn’t put one cent in their pocket. For Ton Stam, however, not making any money for himself has been the idea all along.

Stam opened Chocolaterie Stam on Wednesday in the Greenway Station shopping center in Middleton. Stam, a native of the Netherlands who runs the U.S. branch of his family’s century-old chocolate company, has earmarked all the profits from this store to benefit the Madison Scouts drum and bugle corps.

Stam, a trumpet player, is a former member of the Scouts. When he came to Madison to join them in 1980, he was the first international member of a U.S. corps.
