Colts Auditions Continue At December 17-19 Camp

| |

Missed the Colts November audition camp? No problem! There is still time to hop on board at the corps’ next audition camp on the weekend of December 17-19 in Dubuque, IA. This will be the second rehearsal for the upcoming 2011 season after a successful November camp.

“We had a great turnout for our November camp,” said Greg Orwoll, Executive Director of the Colts. “It was the first time we have ever had a camp in November, so we really didnt know what to expect. With nearly 200 members in attendance, we were thrilled at the results.”

The corps is in the process of solidifying its membership for the upcoming season by holding open auditions for each section of the corps. Specifically brass musicians, percussionists and color guard performers are welcome to audition for the corps at the December camp.

Members who would like to audition for the corps but cannot attend the December audition camp should contact Vicki Schaffer, Colts Youth Programs Director (below), in order to make alternate arrangements for auditioning by video tape, or at an upcoming camp.

For the nearly 200 members who made the trip to Dubuque in November, the experience was a great one. The staff laid down a foundation for the corps rehearsal techniques, explained the show design process and detailed their expectations for auditioning and returning members.

“We are committed to excellence in all that we do,” said Chris Tomsa, Colts Program Coordinator and Brass Arranger. “We have assembled a top quality staff this year, one that is experienced at teaching and designing for the upper levels of the activity. Our goal is to provide our members with a quality educational experience as well as a program that is enjoyable, exciting and competitively successful. We feel we have the right staff in place to accomplish that this year.”

Camp included a welcome meeting for parents on Friday night, and a performance on Sunday of each section of the drum corps, demonstrating some of the various skills and techniques that were learned over the weekend. The corps also held its annual banquet for the Colts and Colt Cadets on Saturday night. Over 250 attended the banquet, which celebrated the 2010 season.
