The Oregon Crusaders, Oregon?s Major League Team in Marching Music, will be operating a winter drumline program at Jefferson High School this coming winter with the assistance of a grant from the Regional Arts and Culture Council (RACC).

In an effort to further support the Portland Community with world-class arts instruction and a competitive arts experience for area youth, the Jefferson High School winter drumline program will be led by renowned percussionist Mike Stevens and Afro-Cuban percussion expert James Travers. Under Mr. Stevens? leadership, the Oregon Crusaders Indoor program (“OC Indoor”) is the reigning nation-wide bronze medalist winter drumline, independent open class. James Travers will help JHS bring a decidedly unique style to the Northwest drumline circuit, as his specialties include Timba, Salsa, Funk, and Reggae. Mr. Travers regularly travels to Cuba and is Portland’s specialist in contemporary Afro-Cuban Drumset & Timbale applications, and he will introduce that unique flavor to the JHS program. It is under their leadership that the JHS winter drumline will learn a variety of techniques, cadences and show music, including a 6-8 minute show that will be performed at some home JHS basketball games, as well as some NWAPA winter drumline competitions.
