Jim Collins made people cry when he played his bugle.

Sometimes, it was all he could do not to cry himself.

He was the man who played taps.

For more than 1,500 military funerals, Collins, now 89, filled the silence at graveside services with the somber notes of “Taps,” the musical voice of God, passing through a bugle that speaks to the heart.
