Cavaliers Alumni, Members And Volunteers Safe In Japan

After a devastating 8.9/9.0 magnitude earth quake and subsequent tsunami hit Japan on Friday, March 11, The Cavaliers have learned that all alumni, members and volunteers are safe. Alumnus Uichi Kajiyama and volunteer Toru Yamada, among others, have worked to reach out to those connected to the organization since the earthquake and confirm safety.

Tour Director Mark Ackerson was traveling on business just outside Tokyo in Narita as the major earthquake hit. “The quake was incredibly strong; I’ve never felt anything like it,” said Ackerson. “Just over 200 miles north near the epicenter, the devastation was absolutely horrific – we’re all thinking of the Japanese people in this tragic time.” After many delays and cancellations, Ackerson is now making his way back to the United States.
