Connecticut Hurricanes Announce 2011 Program

| |

The Connecticut Hurricanes are pleased and excited to announce that their 2011 program will be “Gershwin: Old, New, and Blue”. George Gershwin (1898-1937) was an American composer whose compositions mark the entrance of America into the serious international classical music world. His musicals and popular songs are among the finest in those genres, and his art-music compositions are infused with jazz and popular music.

Our show takes the OLD classical Gershwin melodies, arranges them in NEW and unique ways, and infuses the glory and power of Rhapsody in BLUE to create a show that is sure to entertain. Through our modern treatments of Gershwin’s classics such as “Porgy and Bess”, “Piano Concerto in F”, “Rhapsody in Blue”, “An American in Paris”, as well as the popular compositions “But Not For Me” and “Fascinating Rhythm,” the 2011 Connecticut Hurricanes will engage the audience by exploring and developing the connections between the melodies of yesteryear and the marching music pageantry of today’s DCA. Hopefully this will prove that the music of George Gershwin is timeless and his time is indeed today!

The musical program includes an intro of “Catfish in F” followed by the opener of “On My Way”. The transition ballad will be “But Not For Me” followed by “Fascinating Rhythm”. The ballad is “Concerto in Blue” which is a combination of “Concerto in F” and “Rhapsody in Blue”. The closing number “Blue Concerto in Paris” concludes what promises to be a highly entertaining and fan friendly program. The storm warning flags are now flying high as the 2011 Hurricanes prepare for an exciting and rewarding campaign.
