In The News: A Sea Of Patriotism

People walking through a veritable sea of American flags, flying proudly along Racine’s lakefront throughout Memorial Day weekend. That’s the scene the Racine Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps is planning to create through a new community event called the Healing Field of Southeast Wisconsin.

Originated as a way to visualize and comprehend the sheer enormity of human loss that occurred during the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, a “Healing Field” is a display of hundreds, if not thousands, of American flags flying in unison, with each one representing something of significance. Its general purpose is to raise community awareness about important issues and to honor lives lost and sacrifices made.
