In The News: Former Phantom Regiment Director, 71, Dies

Even in his final hours, Robert J. “Burly Bob” Lendman was listening to a CD of his favorite Phantom Regiment classics.

Lendman, 71, died Saturday in Gainesville, Fla., from complications from a Feb. 15 motorcycle crash.

Lendman had a passion for drum corps, especially for Rockford’s Phantom Regiment, which he directed from 1976 through 1981. He was known for his trademark beard, big frame and an even bigger zest for life.
