Lions Clubs International, Impact Performing Arts Team Up

After months of talks and preparation, the Lions Clubs International’s District 37L and Impact Performing Arts have announced that they will combine resources to develop an exciting new Edmonton-based Drum Corps.

Edmonton, Alberta is a city with a long history of marching arts activities, spanning more than 6 decades. There have been numerous successful marching music ensembles that have come from Edmonton, including the 1st Canadian Regiment, The Edmonton Crusaders Marching Band, The Edmonton Strutters Drum Corps, and Fusion Drum & Bugle Corps, to name a few.

Impact’s Program Director, Steve McConnell had this to say regarding the announcement: “We feel that it’s time to expand and provide another great experience to students of Impact. I’m very excited about the opportunities that our agreement with the Lions represents. They are a great organization that does a lot of good not just in our community, but world-wide, and I know that together we can create a truly special experience for young people in Edmonton and the surrounding region.”

Impact has run a number of successful winter colorguard programs, and will begin offering music lessons to brass and percussion students ages 12-21 this spring. Impact will be offering a drumline program, orchestral percussion and a brass ensemble, with plans to field as a World Class member of the Drum Corps International circuit in the future.
