Star United Mini Corps is proud to announce the musical components of its 2011 competition program.

Entitled I Like Tchaik: The music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Star United’s program will continue to push the boundaries of the mini corps idiom with a program consisting of selections from:

Pas De Deux from “The Nutcracker”
Finale from Symphony No. 4
1812 Overture

Star United dedicates this year’s program and all performances to the memory of Star of Indiana founder Bill Cook.

Brass arrangements have been prepared by Josh Talbot and Frank Sullivan. Brad Myer created the percussion arrangements.

Star United will offer a preview performance of the program on the evening of Saturday, June 10, 2011, at Northern Kentucky University. The corps will also compete with a talented field of mini corps throughout the North America at the Drum Corps Associates Individual and Ensemble competition in Rochester, New York on September 2, 2011. About Star United
Indianapolis-based Star United is a brass and percussion performance ensemble composed primarily of alums of the Star of Indiana Drum and Bugle Corps, Brass Theater, and Blast!.

Formed in 2006, Star United competes with other “mini corps” ensembles located throughout North America at the Drum Corps Associates’ (DCA) national championships each Labor Day Weekend in Rochester, New York. To date, Star United has been named the national championship corps in each of its five years of existence. The corps will attempt to defend its title again on September 2, 2011.

Star United would not exist without the support of its coaching team, Bill Cook, Cook Group, and sponsors such as Vic Firth, Chops Percussion, Evans Drum Heads, Pearl Drums, and ChopsSaver.

Star United is also particularly grateful to its fellow Star of Indiana alums for all of the support the organization has provided the mini corps. The Madison Scouts, Carmel High School (Carmel, Indiana) and Victor High School (Victor, New York) also deserve special recognition for their willingness to share resources to assist the corps in preparing and performing.
