The Hawthorne Caballeros are celebrating their 65th Anniversary in 2011. The Caballeros have a fascinating history based on a North American tradition and a future that is committed to the performing arts, youth education and entertainment.
Since 1946, Hawthorne, New Jersey has been the home of World Champion Hawthorne Caballeros Drum and Bugle Corps. Founded by Hawthorne resident Jim Costello, the Caballeros were originally comprised of veterans returning from the Second World War. Costello introduced the Latin style of music and dress that began the tradition that continues in today’s Caballeros. In fact, the Caballeros still dress in the same uniform introduced by Jim Costello in the early years of the drum and bugle corps.
Today, drum and bugle corps’ are a worldwide community with the Hawthorne Caballeros recognized as the most famous drum and bugle corps in the world. Modern drum and bugle corps are entertainers and fierce – but friendly – competitors.
The competing groups will present their 2011 repertoire which will provide an exciting evening of musical and visual entertainment. Each competing corps presents a unique interpretation of their program that will be judged on musical, visual, marching and artistic expertise. The competing corps includes Sunrisers from Pearl River, NY; Windsor Regiment from West Windsor, NJ; Fusion Core from Dover, NJ; the Bushwackers from Harrison, NJ; the Hurricanes from Seymour, CT; the Buccaneers from Reading, PA; and the Hawthorne Caballeros from Hawthorne, NJ.
The Skyliners Alumni Corps from NY, NY, the Bridgemen from Bayonne, NJ and Jersey Surf from Berlin, NJ will appear in exhibition. A special exhibition from the Hawthorne Caballeros Alumni Corps, from Hawthorne, NJ, will round out the evening – an evening of drum corps that is guaranteed to bring the audience to their feet.
