In The News: Mello-Dears Commemorate 50th Anniversary

The Mello-Dears, a local all female drum and bugle corp., is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year.

The Mello-Dears started off their summer-long parade tour by marching in the Owego Strawberry Festival parade on Saturday. The corp. also has an exhibit at the Tioga County Museum in Owego until August displaying its history.

The corp. was started in 1961 in Apalachin by Fred Ford, the long-time and still current director along with six other men, to be the female counterpart to Apalachin Grenadiers.
