Kidsgrove Scouts Repeat As DCUK Championships

The 2011 DCUK season came to a close in front of an enthusiastic audience on Saturday 17th September at the 32nd British Drum Corps Championships held at Mansfield Town Football Club.

The day commenced with all 10 Open Class Corps competing in the Preliminary contest to determine which 8 Corps moved forward to the Open Finals and which would compete for the A Class title. Kidsgrove Scouts came out on top but only 0.25 ahead of The Company with Black Knight hard on both their tails.

The first Championships of the day was for the Junior Class and for the second year running Kidsgrove Scouts were crowned Champions beating off 3 other Corps for the British title:

JUNIOR CLASS
Kidsgrove Scouts Juniors – 56.30
37th Kingswood Cadets – 50.90
Black Knights Cadets – 50.55
Concord AllStars – 47.30

After an exhibition by The Horizon Corps the two A Class Corps fought it out for the British A Class title with Revolution Show Corps being victorious also winning the Brass, Music, Colour Guard, Visual and Effect Caption Awards with Phantom Knights getting the Percussion Caption Award:

Revolution Show Corps – 54.40
Phantom Knights – 51.45

As the floodlights came on the 8 Open Class Finalists Corps took to the field and, as the event programme stated, “… there is certainly nothing like Drum Corps under floodlights …”. All the Corps raised their game for their evening performances and provided an exciting climax to the season with Kidsgrove Scouts holding off the “attack” from The Company to win their third British title in a row (and their 4th in 5 years). In addition Kidsgrove won the Colour Guard and Effect Caption Awards with The Company taking the Brass, Percussion, Visual and Music Awards:
