In Memoriam: John C. Wolfrom, Former Black Watch Director

With great sadness, we have learned today of the passing of John C. Wolfrom, former director of the Black Watch Drum and Bugle Corps, friend of the Surf program and supporter of the competitive drum corps activity. Mr. Wolfrom was the father of long-time instructional staff member Joyce Wolfrom-Roos and husband of Claudette Wolfrom, who continues the family legacy as director of the Black Watch WGI Independent World Color Guard.

John had a lifelong passion of providing opportunities for young people by teaching them the art of music and competition. He started his Drum Corps career with Philadelphia’s Yearsley Blackhawks Drum Corps as a child, eventually becoming the business manager for Royaleers of Haddonfield, NJ before becoming the director of Black Watch Drum and Bugle Corps of Willingboro, NJ from 1970-1984.
