In The News: Rockford May Get Its Own Junior Drum Corps

Joe Marino and James Simmons want to put a new unit in the Fourth of July parade this summer, a smartly-uniformed, precision-stepping, bugle-blowing, drum-banging corps of young people from the Rock River Valley.

They haven’t been recruited yet or taught to play. But Marino, Rockford’s well-known organizer of all things Fourth of July, and Simmons, director of the Anatowind Music Clinic in Beloit, say if they can get 24 kids together by April, they can have them playing and marching by July.
