Waukee’s Celebration In Brass Drum Corps Contest Returns

| |

Celebration in Brass, Central Iowa’s famed drum and bugle corps competition, returns to the Waukee High Stadium on Tuesday, July 10, starting at 7 p.m. The Colts Youth Organization (CYO) from Dubuque and the Waukee High Band Boosters teamed up to return the Drum Corps International (DCI) contest last year before a near sellout crowd in Waukee after it was a successful Ankeny tradition from 1982 through 2007.

Seven of the nation’s top marching musical units will compete in this year’s show, including the Blue Devils from Concord, Calif., who return from last year and have won a record 14 DCI world championships. They’ll be joined by the six-time world champion Santa Clara (Calif.) Vanguard and the host Colts, “Iowa’s Ambassadors of Music.” Perennial DCI World Class finalists the Boston (Mass.) Crusaders will join with the Cascades from Woodinville, Wash. and Dubuque’s Colt Cadets – CYO’s more local, younger corps – as other units back from last year’s show. The Academy from Tempe, Ariz. and Forte will make its Celebration in Brass debut.

Tickets sell as low as $15 and may be purchased at www.colts.org, or by calling 563-582-4872. They’re also available at the Waukee Fareway. A $5 discount is available for groups of 10 or more. Group sales may be purchased at cibtickets [at] gmail [dot] com.
