2013 Fusion Core January Camp Report

| |

January 26th & 27th camp weekend brought a lot of new faces to the Core. Despite members returning to college, there was a good turnout in all sections. Congratulations to our members who performed in the North Jersey Region Band concert on Sunday and also congrats to those who were selected for the All State Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble in New Jersey. As the Core enters our seventh season membership is blossoming as we continue to provide our members with the values and music education that invokes personal excellence, sportsmanship and teamwork.

On Saturday, guard members came down and Kerri Newlander continued to reinforce the technique and body program. The day began with basics, body, and they finished the day doing the work to the opener with the brass and having a great time together. If you are interested in spinning all are welcome to come for the day, make some new friends, and enjoy some time with fellow guard members who are not involved in indoor. A good time is always had!!

The brass continued to work on the 2013 production, Till We Meet Again. Technique was the word of the weekend!! Our Brass education team continued to provide a well-rounded music education implementing the standards Fusion Brass is known for.

After rehearsal at the Jefferson Middle School, Lake Hopatcong, NJ, many of the administration, staff and members headed to Muldoons for some good food and karaoke where they closed down the place. Who knew there were so many talented and aspiring singers AND dancers in the group!! New comer Sheri H. said “I love that there’s members from all sections hanging here together!!” That’s what drum corps is all about right??

Sunday brought a cold and blustery day at Camp Jefferson. While the lake was frozen and ice fisherman enjoyed their hobby on the horizon, the percussionists rejoined the Core. Sectionals were held in cabins led by Caption Head, Pat Vazquez and Percussion Team, Mike Schmitt, Chris Arnold, Omi Battan, Kirsten Suess and Kristen Morgan. The battery and pit worked hard all day on technique and show music while Holly and Gretchen met with the percussion members one on one to discuss the season and getting to know the new members and returning members a little better.

The weekend concluded with a full ensemble led by Mike Schmitt, Ensemble Coordinator. The brass and battery performed the opener, When A Man Loves A Woman and City of Angels. As the Core concluded another productive camp weekend there was much enthusiasm and excitement in the air.

Please feel free to join us at our next rehearsal, Saturday, February 9th (Brass & Guard) at the Jefferson Middle School and Sunday, February 10th (Brass & Percussion) at the Pequannock High School. If you are looking to be a part of a growing world class organization there are positions available in all sections for team oriented individuals; visit us at fusioncorenj.com/newmembership.html
