New Instruments For Thurrock Marching Brass

| |

Thurrock Marching Brass celebrates its 40th Anniversary on 18 October at the Civic Hall in Grays this year, and how fitting it was to have some of the old boys at hand to help hand out new instruments to the members. John Loader (Son of Founder David J. E Loader), Danny Doherty and Paul Meadows, all instrumental leaders of the initial generation of the band, joined the Corps Director, Darren Crisp, his staff and TMB’s new Vice President, Paul Grundy in handing out new Brass Instruments and three new front line static 4½ octave Marimba, Xylophone and Vibraphone to some very excited members.

In addition to the instruments, former Thurrock Drum & Trumpet Corps and Thurrock Marching Brass multi-award winning Drum Major, John Loader presented his own mace to Thurrock Marching Brass’ current Drum Major, Laura Pickton, who was flanked by Sophie Corcoran (Drum Major for the 2012 summer season) and Shaun Crisp (Drum Major for parades and stand in for Laura).

Corps Director, Darren Crisp said of the presentations “All of the members have worked so hard over the past months, and although I knew that the new instruments were on their way, not letting on to them was hard at times as we have been using a number of second hand bits and pieces that have been difficult to keep in good working order. To see their faces as they were each presented with new instruments was something I will remember for a long time. This was especially capped off by having three TMB legends plus our new Vice President assisting me and my staff. The hard task of making sure that we put them all to good use now starts, but I and my staff are very excited to see just how far we can push these extremely talented bunch of very young musicians forward. The guard were also presented with samples of their new winter equipment, which again will be put to good use post our National Championships efforts in early October. I would like to thank everyone who has helped to contribute to making all this happen, and especially to my staff who work with the members to help make them the best that they can be”

Thurrock Marching Brass are proud to perform as much as they can within the community and you can keep up to date with all their engagements on our website below or by following their on Facebook.
