The New York Skyliners Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps is pleased to announce some exciting staff news as preparations continue for the 20th Anniversary season.

Joining the Brass staff as a Brass tech is Al Chez while returning to the podium is Carl Ruocco as DM.

  • Al Chez – former trumpet/flugelhorn with Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra on the Late Night with David Letterman show, Al started his drum corps career with the Woodbridge-Edison Saints followed by the Garfield Cadets. He continues to donate his time to such corps as the Crossman, Cadets and Fusion Core.
  • Carl Ruocco – member of the World Drum Corps Hall of Fame and former staff coordinator of the World Champion Reading Buccaneers, Carl started his drum corps career with the Dumont Police Cadets prior to joining the New York Skyliners. In the past, he has been the Assistant Director of Star of Indiana, the Director of the Crossmen, the Assistant Director of Santa Clara Vanguard, and the Executive Director of the Orlando Magic. Carl will be sharing DM responsibilities with Bob “Vito” Gironda.

The music/show committee has designed an exciting repertoire for the 2014 Anniversary as follows:

Opener – Medley of “NY State of Mind/Harlem Nocturne” by Danny Lutz (1992)

Transition – “Fever” by Hy Dreitzer (1968)

Concert/Production – “God Bless the Child” (inspired by Blood, Sweat Tears and Future Corps) (2001)

Closer – “Ev’ry Street’s a Boulevard / Signature” by Hy Dreitzer (1964)

Encore – “The Elks’ Parade” by Hy Dreitzer (1972)

Rehearsals are already enthusiastically underway with both “Fever” and “God Bless The Child” sounding really good considering it’s ONLY September!! 2014 has the makings of being a stellar and exciting season for the corps.

The corps is also actively recruiting for both new and former members to be a part of this uniquely American art form. Whatever your interest – be it brass, percussion, color guard, or honor guard, there is a spot for you. Keeping an organization such as this operating smoothly and efficiently, there is a constant need for behind the scenes support personnel and the corps currently has job openings for quartermaster(s), to handle uniforms, equipment, ordering, etc. If anyone is interested in helping us in this capacity, please contact our Director at the address indicated below.

The Skyliners Alumni Drum & Bugle Corps is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization co-sponsored by
