In The News – Naval Academy Tradition Turns 100 With A Beat
The academy marching band formed a century ago (16 midshipmen performed at a 1914 baseball game against St. John’s College). Since then, the Drum & Bugle Corps has played for presidents — John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan — also for families at Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parades, and for midshipmen going to lunch or chapel, especially for football fans at halftime; a history that will be celebrated this year with an original score, music evoking pride and tradition — and, well, Beyonce.
