In The News – Corps Demands Excellence Of Local Musicians

The lyrics from Ringo Starr and George Harrison’s “It Don’t Come Easy,” sums up North Surry High senior Michael Haynes and Greyhound alum Cassidy Hyde musically paying their dues over the summer in The Pioneer Drum & Bugle Corps & Color Guard. The intense performance demands didn’t leave them singing the blues about their decision though.

“They (Pioneer Drum & Bugle Corps) demand excellence out of these kids and get it,” said Band Director Michael Hyde. The Drum Corps is in its 40th year since being started in the 1970s. Haynes, who has been in band since seventh grade, said he has 70 performances in his school career to date. He said the band and guard performance schedule quickly piled up more performances than he had in six years of band.
