sky_alumni_100x100Following a busy spring and summer of 8 indoor/outdoor performances culminating in DCA’s Alumni Spectacular exhibition in Rochester NY on Labor Day weekend, the corps is in the home stretch of one of its most successful and entertaining seasons in recent memory. This year, capping off the remarkable run, Skyliners Alumni has been invited to perform at the 31st Annual Mount Olive High School Marching Band Competition on Saturday October 24th. Skyliners Alumni will be the only drum and bugle corps at this year’s event. As such, this provides the corps an excellent opportunity to act as ambassadors of goodwill by introducing Drum Corps to the local high school band community as an on-going musical activity and recreational outlet, thereby helping to foster and promote the continued growth of traditional drum and bugle corps.

This is a BIG event in North Jersey hosted by the Mount Olive High School Band Boosters Association (MOHSBBA) and is expected to draw more than 800 competitors from 13 competing bands and over 1500 spectators. It serves as a fundraiser to provide academic scholarships, instruments, professional expert instruction, permitting students to qualify and compete on both national and statewide levels in events such as Bands of America, The Yamaha Music Festival and US Bands.

This year’s competition offers bands from 4 NJ counties (Morris, Sussex, Essex, and Warren) and includes: Dover, High Point, Morris Hills, Nutley, Columbia, West Milford, West Orange, Roxbury, Randolph, Warren Hills, Mendham, Kittatinny and Morristown.

Skyliners Alumni, under the direction of Dr. Richard Evans, will be performing their 2015 program at approximately 7:15 pm. featuring: “Slaughter on 10th Avenue”, “Lullaby of Birdland”, “Alabama Jubilee”, “Elk’s Parade”, a medley of “Give My Regards to Broadway”, “Traffic Jam”, “Little Old New York”, and SKY’s legendary “Signature”.

Following the competition, The Mount Olive High School Marching Band, under the direction of John DiEgidio and assistant director Darryl Hendricks, will perform their 2015 show entitled “Opulence” featuring Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherazade” and “Russian Easter” and Borodin’s Symphony #2. The award winning band was one of only five high school marching bands featured in the 2014 Super Bowl Halftime Show with Bruno Mars.

The day’s events will take place at Mount Olive High School, 18 Corey Rd. Flanders, NJ 07836. Gates open at 4 p.m. with the competition running from 5:00 pm to 10:00 p.m. General admission is $12, $8 for students and seniors, and children under 5 free. All proceeds benefit the Mount Olive High School band programs.
