Bridgemen “Spinoff” Preparing For Competition

bridgemen_100x100The DoubleB independent Color Guard, which is the youth activity offered by the Bridgemen organization, is getting ready for their upcoming competitive season. Holding their workouts at the St Andrews School, the guard is accepting new members through the end of the year. Made up primarily of high school and college students, many of which are graduates of the local high school program, the guard is currently focused on building their fundamental skill set and blocking out this years production. They will be entering their third year of competitive performances in February.

Several new members joined a solid core of returning members as the instructional staff lead the group through a series of body warm-ups and equipment fundamentals at the last rehearsal. The night began with an extensive stretch and conditioning session followed by movement technique and equipment handling basics. Being a competitive, physical activity, members must use these pre-season rehearsals to prepare their bodies as if they were entering an athletic competition. Developing muscle memory and control is paramount, as the group will be judged on uniformity in style and technique.

Members are required to pay dues, which are among the lowest in the activity, and participate in fund raisers to raise funds for costumes, equipment and contest entrance fees. The guard is open to young men and women, ages 14 and up. The staff however, will accept members as young as age 12, as long as they are able to handle the physical, mental and financial responsibilities of the group. There is professional instructional staff that is committed to the performers. They are volunteering their time and talents; dedicated to providing a positive experience for the group.

DoubleB is currently holding their annual food drive. They will be collecting non-perishable food items at their Wednesday rehearsals through December. Donations will be delivered to the St Andrews Food Pantry as a holiday thank you for their hospitality. Anyone wishing to contribute is welcome to visit rehearsal to drop off their donation and observe rehearsal.
