Preston Scout House Band Inc. of Cambridge is offering a thousand reasons for people to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary on July 1: a $1,000 top prize and two $500 prizes in the Scout House raffle.
Tickets are available from members of every group in the organization, including Magic of Scout House winter guard, Preston Scout House Cadets drum and bugle corps, Silver Leaves Brass Ensemble, Scout House Heritage Guard and Scout House Band heritage unit that will march in Preston’s Canada Day parade on July 1.

The winning tickets will be drawn at the Scout House barbecue to be held at the Speedsville Community Hall, 333 Speedsville Road, following the parade. A special Scout House heritage band of more than 100, including current and former members dating back to the 1940s, will participate in the special event, which is being billed as the Scout House Canada 150 Summer Tour. The “tour” begins on King Street at Bishop Street and ends a mile away at Eagle Street, the end of the parade route.

Chances of winning one the three raffle prizes are relatively high. Only a thousand tickets will be sold. Raffle proceeds will help meet the organization’s annual operating expenses. Preston Scout House Band Inc. recently received significant other community financial support: a $5,000 grant from the City of Cambridge and $1,037.50 from the Cambridge and North Dumfries Community Foundation (CNDCF) through the William and Vera Fisher Family Fund.
