Thurrock Academy Returns To WGUK For The 2018 Season

| |

After a two year absence from the Winterguard United Kingdom circuit Thurrock Marching Brass is delighted to announce that its colourguard, performing under the name of Thurrock Academy, will be returning to the WGUK circuit and will be competing in the Junior Class.

To lead this effort, Thurrock Academy and The Academy legend Charmaine Mansfield has been appointed as Guard Director by our Corps Director, and will oversee all winterguard related matters.

We are extremely thrilled to make this announcement after taking the difficult decision to close down the winterguard programs in 2016 to allow the corps to grow and to help develop our winter music program further. We will be using a classic drum corps model to provide the corps’ colourguard winter focus while the musicians learn new music and perform at local events during the winter period. This will sustain interest for our members across the spectrum of opportunities and throughout the year.

Anyone interested in taking part who are not affiliated with any active group should in the first instance contact Charmaine Mansfield at Charmaine [at] thurrockmarchingbrass [dot] org who will be happy to talk to you and to explain the requirements.

Speaking of the events and proceedings, Thurrock Marching Brass Corps Director, Jay Lindner said “I am absolutely delighted that Charmaine Mansfield has accepted the Guard Director’s role and how fitting is it that someone with such deep roots embedded in the TMB and Thurrock Academy environment gets to lead Thurrock Academy back onto the field of winter competition. We have incredible talents in this space to assist Charmaine, not least our chairman, Paul Morgan, and so I for one look forward to what our colourguard under Charmaine’s direction will come up with. One thing is for sure, it will be something to enjoy watching. Congratulations Charmaine and good luck in your new senior leadership role here at TMB!”

Adding to Jay’s comments, Charmaine said “Those that know me know that I am a winter person through and through, and to be able to lead back out the Thurrock Academy name again is something that I am so very proud of. My entire family has a long history in both the summer and winter drum corps activities and as anyone will know once you’re bitten you just know that you will be involved in some way, shape or form. To help develop the youngsters here at Thurrock Marching Brass and to now extend that development into the WGUK circuit will be really useful for each and every member that gets involved. I am already working on the 2018 production with the team here and really look forward to seeing how we can grow that team over the coming years. I would like to thank our Corps Director, Jay Lindner for giving me this opportunity, and of course to my guard members for continuing to grow as we move forward.”

Thurrock Marching Brass is proud to perform as much as they can within the community and you can keep up to date with all their engagements on our website below or by following them on Facebook.
