In The News – Marching Orders

When Phil Dennesen was a boy, he’d watch the St. Mary’s Cardinals Drum and Bugle Corps marching in parades down Cabot Street, nearly 100 uniformed boys and girls passing by in impressive formation.

“They looked so majestic,” he said. “When the drums and the horns went by, you could feel it. You’d want to be a part of it.”

Dennesen and thousands of others did become part of the Crusaders, later named the Cardinals, in a drum and bugle corps the lasted from 1948 to 1975. And the connections they made were so strong that they endure to this day.
