“What have I gotten myself into?”

Standing in 100-degree heat in Clovis, California, Lance Reutlinger couldn’t help but ask himself the question. He was over 1,300 miles away from his home in Buffalo, and he hadn’t slept on an honest-to-goodness bed in over a month. One of the first rules of being a Casper Trooper, he learned, was that you take sleep when and where you can get it. But what you get is almost never enough.
